Massachusetts Big Data Community Encouraged to Share and View Events, Company Information, Access Public Data Sets, and Job Postings via New Centralized Web Resource

BOSTON - Today, MassTech announced the official launch of, a web portal which aims to bring together the Big Data community in Massachusetts and help drive increased awareness, learning, and business activity in the advanced analytics sector. is a project of the Massachusetts Big Data Initiative, launched by Governor Patrick to leverage and expand the Commonwealth’s position as a global leader in the rapidly growing big data ecosystem.

The portal will support the Mass Big Data Initiative’s efforts to drive growth in the regional big data ecosystem. The initiative focuses its efforts around four strategic areas: 

  • Increasing public access to open government data sets;
  • Enhancing the skilled workforce through partnerships with academia and business;
  • Fueling collaborative innovation through data-driven events such as hackathons; and
  • Raising awareness of the sector through targeted outreach campaigns.

To address these key areas, the web portal provides a range of integrated and unique resources, including information about publicly available open data sets from across Massachusetts, a Mass Big Data events calendar, searchable regional job listings, and a map of MassBigData companies, related firms, and resources across the Commonwealth.

“The explosion of big data analytics is transforming how industry and government operate around the world,” said Governor Patrick. “This new site will further leverage and expand our position as a global leader in the rapidly growing big data sector.”

Opening access to public data sets has been a core goal of the Governor’s drive to advance open government and spur innovation in the Mass Big Data ecosystem.  The Commonwealth has opened a series of data sets, with recent additions presented on the MBTA’s and MassDOT’s “Developers Pages,” and has encouraged increased civic engagement around efforts to explore and showcase the potential of innovation and collaboration around the use of open data to benefit the public at-large. 

Through the Massachusetts Big Data Initiative, the Innovation Institute at the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative has initiated efforts to expand the region’s global leadership and fully realize the Mass Big Data sector’s economic potential over the next three to five years.

“This site will help further the Governor's Big Data Initiative by expanding innovative connections between companies, data analysts, and students who are leading the advanced analytics charge in Massachusetts,” states Pamela Goldberg, CEO of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative.  “This portal will help the array of entities to coalesce into the MassBigData community, giving them an online resource where they can post career opportunities, highlight leading talent, and build technology partnerships - all of which will help spur innovation and growth in the Commonwealth’s Big Data sector.”

Entrepreneurs, students, researchers, and public agencies are encouraged to log on to and share information about their companies, available career opportunities, upcoming events, and more.  Social dialogue about the Mass Big Data community using #MassBigData will also be highlighted on the site.
