TechGeneration Student FAQ

General Questions

TechGeneration is a selective summer residential experience for college students interning in Massachusetts. It combines significantly discounted housing in Boston with a built-in student cohort, weekly programming and exposure to Massachusetts’ innovation ecosystem.

You’ll receive discounted housing in Boston, a built-in cohort of peers, and weekly programming led by partner universities (Harvard, MIT, Northeastern, and Boston University) alongside industry partners. Programming covers topics like AI, entrepreneurship, climate innovation, and leadership, plus opportunities to connect with employers and ecosystem leaders.

Applications open April 1. Space is limited, so applying early is strongly recommended.

TechGeneration is selective and space is limited. Selection is expected to consider internship alignment (tech-related in Massachusetts), your interest in community/professional development,, and your ability to participate in the full program experience.

TechGeneration is designed to complement your internship. Expect recurring weekly programming and optional community activities; details on timing and expectations will be provided to participants.

Beyond housing, TechGeneration is designed to help you build a strong peer network, explore the Massachusetts innovation ecosystem (robotics, fintech, digital health, and more), and add a resume-enhancing experience that can help translate an internship into a full-time pathway.

Visit the program website and submit an application before Friday, May 1.

Housing

Housing will be located at Boston University Student Village.  Specific residence details (address, move-in logistics, and what to bring) will be shared with accepted students.

Housing is available May 25 – August 14. Program activities will take place during this window.

TechGeneration subsidizes 50% of the nightly rate for housing. Interns are responsible for paying the remainder ($34.50/night) to Boston University directly. Staying for the full 12 weeks will cost interns $2,898 out of pocket. Housing costs will be pro-rated, so interns will only pay for the weeks they are able to live there.

Housing is offered for the full program window (May 25 – August 14). During this period, you may live in the housing before your internship begins and/or after it concludes. Please indicate the dates you will be living in the housing when you apply. Partial stays will be considered, but preference will be given to students who can stay for the duration of the program.

Eligibility

The program is intended for juniors, seniors, and graduate students who have secured (or are actively pursuing) a tech-related internship in Massachusetts and would benefit from affordable housing and a structured summer program.

You should have secured a tech-related internship in Massachusetts or be in the process of finalizing one. If your internship is not yet confirmed when you apply, be prepared to share your internship status and update the program team as soon as you have an offer. You will not be formally accepted until your internship is confirmed.

Yes, Massachusetts residents who attend a college or university out of state are eligible for TechGeneration.

Yes. The program does not provide work authorization as the internship employer typically determines hiring eligibility. If you do have work authorization, we encourage you to review TechGeneration eligibility requirements and apply.
